So, I have figured out some tricks of the blog, and you all can look forward to the layout making a lot more sense. You are welcome! A special thanks to Nikki, for inviting me to her blog and showing me how it is supposed to look. So here goes:
I know I said I would to a castle tour, but I kinda forgot, and I am on a roll of recapping the last couple weeks, so I thought I should continue that. So on Friday, 19 September, we took a group trip to Glasgow. This is yet another area of Scotland that is very different than the Edinburgh area. There is a lot of poverty, and housing that has been stuck down and rebuilt several times. As we learned in Gerry's class the other day, and through Gerry on this tour (Gerry grew up in the Glasgow area), Glasgow was hit really hard when manufacturing industry began to decline, and it left a lot of people without jobs.
The big highlight of the trip to Glasgow was going to Celtic Park, in the Parkhead area of town. It is also called Paradise because it is located right next to a cemetery. It was really, really cool! There are two football teams in Glasgow, Celtic and the Rangers. They were both originally formed as charities, Celtic by Catholics and Rangers by Protestants. They are still huge rivals today. The same group that started Celtic also started the Hibs in Edinburgh.
The tour was really neat, and started off in the board room, with a wall filled with trophies. There were some really neat ones. From there we went to the locker room, and they actually had some jerseys hanging on the wall. This is how I discovered my favorite player, Shaun Maloney, #13 (If you don't know, Maloney is Mike's surname). Luckiky, it turns out he is pretty good. They also had the keeper's shirt, Boric up. He is Leah's favorite. I don't think they had the jersey of D's favorite player up. Either that, or we don't know his name and just looked at a picture of him on the roster Gerry gave us on the first day of class. One of the two. From there we went out to the pitch. The pictures aren't great because they were watering the field, but you get the idea. After that, we saw Rod Stewart's seat (it has a plaque). There are actually two plaques... The original seat wore out, so they just swapped it with another seat and put a new plaque on it. The Scottish don't waste! Except I also think they don't recycle... Strange.
Anyway, from there we watched a movie about Celtic in a room that had all the hoops (the kit is called the "hoops" because of its bold green and while horizontal stripes) that the team has ever wore. After that, we actually went back down to the pitch where the photographer for the team magazine took a picture of us! Maybe we will be in the next issue, Gerry will keep us posted.
After that, we went to a museum that I can't remember the name of, then stopped in the center of town for a bit of shopping. Every shop I found was really expensive. In general, I did not like the city. It was really different than Edinburgh, and I LOVE Edinburgh (Gerry, don't fail me!). it was really interesting, and I really enjoyed the Parkhead tour. So overall, not a bad day. Here are the Celtic pics:
Saturday was pretty low key. Leah, D and I have been dominating the ping pong room, and many nights the movie room as well. Ping pong is really fun. Right now we are trying to get beerlympics going for this Saturday. That is where you play all the bar games and find a winner. Luckily, all the bar games are in the house, including Ping Pong, Fooseball, Pool, Darts and Flip Cup. It should be a good time. Leah is also planning a ping pong tourney, so that should be fun as well. Movies and table tennis are how we spend most of our spare time. That and reading.
I have read a ton since I have been here, including: Both Bridget Jones' Diaries, About a Boy, Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone (that was for class, but do you sense the British book trend?), Brothers in Arms (again for class), How Opal Mentha Got Kissed, Got Wild and Got a Life (chick lit...just for fun), Good In Bed (more chick lit), The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (for class) and a couple others that I can't remember. It is amazing what you do with no television.
Sunday was a really fun day. We went fly fishing with Henry, who also does the cooking class. Update on cooking class: we have made pie, chocolate mousse, shortbread, and lasagna. It is all really good, and super fun. Henry is a dirty old man, but hilarious. He spends most of class making fun of Drew's masculinity. Pretty funny. Anyway, back to fishing. Only me, Will and John, our AD, ended up going. Erik got drunk the night before and did not make it. It was so much fun! I did not have any pictures took of me, but I took some of John, so I will put those up. I had a fish on the line, but it snapped it. John had one on too, but it spit out the hook. So no fish were actually caught. Then it got really windy, so it got much harder to fish. We were there from around 9 to 15:00. I think I am going to go again in a couple of weeks. I had a really good time.
Post fishing, we went to Mayson's for another Celtic match. Good times once again!
This is a pretty fountain by the People's Palace Museum. We didn't go in the museum, but we did have lunch in the cafe there.
Here are the fly fishing shots. Just pretend it is me.

It really was as fun as it looks. Maybe better. It would depend on how fun it looks...
This is the three of us girl's in the Celtic showers.
Here is my guy's kit. I miss you Mike!
This is a super famous quote that is on the wall. Well, they say it is famous. I never heard it before I went to the stadium.
This is where the players run out from.
This is the guy who founded the club.
Here is a broad view of the pitch. The white things are the watering devices. Gerry is the guy in the front of the picture.
Here is a nice group shot in front of the fountain.
They had delicious ice cream, but the cone was actually a teddy bear's head, and made me feel bad when I had to eat it.
Here is some of the trophy case.
This is Patty, our Resident Director, apparently being a weirdo. She is really funny.
They always put the opposing team's kit in here before they play them.

Hey Traci,
Your blog is great! I feel like I'm there with you! It's interesting that they don't recyle anything in Scotland because here in Germany we recycle EVERYTHING!!
Your pictures are amazing!! What a great experience!!
TTYS,
Nikki
